Self-evaluation refers to the process by which individuals, teams, or institutions assess themselves using specific methods and techniques in line with established standards.

The purpose of self-evaluation is to ensure that institutions plan according to national and international quality criteria, monitor and evaluate their outputs, build an institutional quality memory, and establish an internal quality assurance system.

In accordance with the relevant articles of the Higher Education Quality Assurance Regulation, Osmaniye Korkut Ata University (OKÜ) annually prepares and submits to the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) a Self-Evaluation Report (Institutional Internal Evaluation Report – KİDR) in line with the Institutional Internal Evaluation Report Preparation Guide (Version 4.1) published by YÖK.

As the Quality Coordination Office, in order to facilitate the preparation of the institutional report, our university units are requested to prepare their own Osmaniye Korkut Ata University Unit Quality Self-Evaluation Report (OKÜ-BÖDR). The purpose of the OKÜ-BÖDR is to enable each unit to identify its strengths and areas for improvement, and to contribute to continuous enhancement processes.

During the preparation process, it is aimed that each unit benefits from the External Evaluation Program to the highest extent possible. Through this report, it is intended that units be assessed in terms of communication and cooperation with stakeholders, self-evaluation activities, and the dissemination and internalization of a quality assurance culture.

It is also expected that the reports prepared by the units will contribute to the university’s overall institutional quality self-evaluation report. To enhance participation in the report preparation process, it is encouraged that inclusiveness and stakeholder participation be ensured, a process-based management approach rather than a bureaucratic data-management approach be adopted, transparency be maintained in unit quality commission activities, and the process be supported through continuous training initiatives.

 

Purpose of Self-Evaluation

Through self-evaluation within educational institutions, it is aimed to:

  • Involve all units in activities aimed at improving educational and instructional processes,

  • Identify and disseminate best practices,

  • Establish a shared quality culture,

  • Ensure the functionality of a sustainable quality development process,

  • Provide reliable data required for external evaluation,

  • Enhance understanding of institutional goals and promote teamwork,

  • Ensure the efficient and effective use of resources.

 

Why is the Self-Evaluation Report Prepared?

In line with the trends of the Higher Education Quality Council of Türkiye (YÖKAK), it is envisaged that the Internal Quality Assurance Process will be fully implemented in all universities across the country by 2023.

Accordingly, at our university, the preparation of the Self-Evaluation Report aims to initiate the internal quality assurance process throughout the institution and to share and disseminate exemplary practices among academic units.

How Does the Self-Evaluation Process Contribute to Academic Units?

Self-evaluation is an important process of continuous improvement and development. It enables academic units to reflect on themselves, recognize their strengths and areas requiring enhancement, and increase their national and international competitiveness and prestige.

Who Composes the Self-Evaluation Report Preparation Committee?

The Self-Evaluation Committee in each academic unit is to be formed under the facilitation of a Self-Evaluation Coordinator, with the participation of the dean or director of the unit, at least three faculty members, one graduate, and at least one student.

In programs where there are not enough faculty members, the committee may also be composed of teaching staff members.
