What is the Part-Time Student Employment Program?

Within the framework of the “Regulations on the Employment of Part-Time Students in Higher Education Institutions,” published by the Council of Higher Education pursuant to Article 46 of the Higher Education Law No. 2547, and the Senate Principles Directive of our University dated 26/08/2014 and numbered 390/14, students are employed under the scope of “Part-Time Work” (in numbers approved by the relevant University Executive Board decision for the respective term) in order to assist with academic and administrative tasks and operations within the units of our University during the academic semesters.

What is the Purpose of the Part-Time Student Employment Program?

The purpose is to contribute to the development of our students as productive individuals with a strong sense of work discipline by enabling them to work in temporary positions outside their class hours, in line with their interests and abilities, thereby allowing them to gain both financial income and practical skills.

Who is Considered a Part-Time Student Employee?

A student who is employed in temporary positions within the academic and administrative units of our University and is not considered a worker.

Who is Eligible to Work Part-Time?

Students who are enrolled in any associate, undergraduate, or graduate program (excluding non-thesis and special students), who are pursuing their studies within the regular period of education, and who have not received any disciplinary sanction, may serve as part-time student employees at our University.

Which Students Are Not Eligible for Part-Time Employment?
Non-thesis Master’s students,
  • Students enrolled at another university but studying at our University under the “Special Student” status

International students (including those from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and Turkic Republics),
Students with a criminal record for offenses such as terrorism, drug-related crimes, or crimes of moral turpitude,
Students who have received disciplinary sanctions,
Students with an income at or above the minimum wage (excluding orphan pensions and alimony),
Students who have exceeded the normal duration of study (one additional year is added for those in preparatory classes),
Students whose contracts were previously terminated by the University during an employment period due to breach of contract.
What Types of Tasks Do Students Perform?

Students are required to contribute to administrators, staff, and academic personnel in order to ensure that tasks and operations are carried out more efficiently and effectively, without disrupting the workflow of the respective unit. In general, they are employed in simple office duties, tasks that do not require specialized expertise, and assignments related to their field of study.

What Types of Tasks Are Students Not Allowed to Perform?
Students may not be employed in tasks involving student and grading affairs within the units, nor in heavy duties such as cleaning, carrying, or similar types of work.
What is the Duration of Employment?

Part-time student employees may work between 3 to 5 hours per day, and up to a maximum of 15 hours per week, within the schedule deemed appropriate by the unit in which they are employed.

How Are Students’ Working Hours Arranged?

The distribution of working hours across the days of the week, as well as the starting and ending times of the work, is determined by the relevant unit administrators in a manner that does not interfere with the student’s class schedule.

Do Students Work on Weekends and Official Holidays?

Although the general principle is that no work is carried out on days recognized by law as national holidays and public holidays, part-time student employees may be required to work on weekends, at night, and on official holidays in units that remain open, when necessitated by the nature of the work, upon the request of the unit administrator.

Can a Student Work in More Than One Unit?

Students are not entitled to work in more than one unit.

Does My Employment Affect the Rights I Receive from My Family?

Students do not lose the monthly allowances or benefits provided by their families as a result of the income they earn through this employment.

I Receive a Survivor’s Pension under SGK Article 39. If I Work Part-Time, Will My Pension Be Terminated?

Students who receive a survivor’s pension from the Social Security Institution (SGK) do not lose their pension when they work part-time.

Where Can I Work?

All academic and administrative units of our University, as well as its research and development centers, provide employment opportunities for students.

In Which Periods Are Students Recruited?

Student recruitment is carried out at the beginning of each academic semester (October). If needed, recruitment may also take place in the middle of the semester (February) and during the summer term (July). No recruitment is conducted outside these periods.

How Can I Apply for a Job?

Job postings are announced in the Part-Time Student section available at https://www.osmaniye.edu.tr/birimdetay-sks-19121. For each position, you may apply by submitting a job application form to the relevant unit within the dates specified in the posting.

What Information Is Included in the Job Postings?

The postings specify in which units and for what types of tasks part-time students will be employed, the nature of the work, the qualifications required of the students, the weekly working hours, as well as the place and dates of application.

Who Selects the Students to Be Employed?

The selection is carried out by the Part-Time Student Selection Committee within the academic and administrative units.

What Documents Are Required to Start Employment?

1 photocopy of the national ID card (including address and telephone number),

  • A recently issued student certificate (to be obtained from the Student Affairs Office)

1 passport-size photograph

Bank account number

Printout of the SPAS Eligibility Certificate from the e-Government portal (can be obtained by logging into the system with your e-Government username and password and typing “SPAS” into the search bar in the upper left corner),

Part-Time Student Employment Contract (to be prepared by our Directorate during the employment process),

Insured Employment Entry Declaration (to be prepared by our Directorate).

How Is the Hourly Wage Determined?

The hourly wage to be paid to part-time student employees is determined by the University Executive Board, provided that it does not exceed one-fourth of the daily gross minimum wage set for workers over the age of 16, in accordance with Labor Law No. 4857.

When Are the Salaries Paid?

Faculties, schools, vocational schools, or other units submit the timesheets for the students’ work in the respective month to the Department of Health, Culture, and Sports by the close of business on the 30th of each month. Following the receipt of all timesheets, the Department of Health, Culture, and Sports initiates the payment process immediately, as a single payroll must be prepared due to Social Security Institution (SGK) procedures. Based on the working hours indicated in these timesheets, payments are prepared as soon as possible (no later than the 10th day of each month) and forwarded to the Directorate of Strategy, after which the salaries are deposited into the students’ bank accounts.

What is the Insurance Status?

Part-time student employees are considered insured under Article 4, paragraph 1(a) of the Social Insurance and General Health Insurance Law No. 5510, and only the provisions regarding occupational accident and occupational disease insurance apply to them. Notifications concerning the commencement and termination of insurance coverage for part-time students are made by the Directorate.

Am I Eligible for Unemployment Benefits When I Leave the Job?

Since unemployment insurance premiums are not paid in accordance with the relevant legal provisions, you are not eligible to receive unemployment benefits.
