English Proficiency Exam (EPEX)

What is EPEX? The EPEX is an exam designed to assess the English proficiency levels of candidates who wish to pursue undergraduate or graduate programs conducted in English at Osmaniye Korkut Ata University.
How often is it administered? The EPEX is held twice each academic year, at the beginning (Fall EPEX) and at the end (Spring EPEX) of the academic year.
Who can take the exam?
  • Fall EPEX: Students newly admitted to the English Language and Literature and Translation and Interpreting departments who wish to be exempt from the Compulsory English Preparatory Program.
  • Spring EPEX: Students who wish to successfully complete the Compulsory English Preparatory Program they are attending.
Purpose of the Exam

Fall EPEX determines whether candidates possess the required English proficiency level to follow the courses in their department/program where the medium of instruction is English.

Spring EPEX assesses whether students have acquired the required English proficiency level by the end of the Compulsory English Preparatory Program.
Exam Scope The exam assesses candidates' ability to understand written and spoken academic texts, respond to them, comprehend classroom interactions, and produce written academic texts.
Additional Information
  • The date, location, and time of the EPEX are determined and announced by the School Directorate in accordance with the academic calendar.
  • The requirements for taking the Spring EPEX are determined and announced by the SFL Board.
  • No make-up exam will be held for students who are unable to take the EPEX for any reason.
  • The EPEX is held in two sessions, morning and afternoon.
  • Students who miss the morning session cannot take the afternoon session.
  • Students who wish to take the Fall EPEX must apply through the method announced by the School of Foreign Languages Directorate. Students who do not apply within the announced period will not be allowed to take the exam.
