Placement Exam (PLEX)

What? PLEX (Placement Exam) is an examination administered by the School of Foreign Languages at Osmaniye Korkut Ata University. The exam is designed to determine students’ English proficiency levels and to support the placement process within the Preparatory Program.
When is it administered? PLEX is administered once at the beginning of each academic year. Each student may benefit from this opportunity only once.
Who takes the exam?
  • All students who will attend the Compulsory English Preparatory Program (CEPP) are required to take this exam.
  • Students who wish to enroll in the Voluntary English Preparatory Program (VEPP) and who have newly registered in faculties or schools where the medium of instruction is Turkish.
Exam Content and Scope
  • PLEX is designed to assess candidates’ reading, grammar, and vocabulary skills.
  • These skills may be evaluated separately or in an integrated format.
  • The exam consists of multiple-choice questions.
  • The exam may include the following types of questions:
    • Reading comprehension
    • Recognizing and applying grammar rules
    • Fill-in-the-blank questions
    • Vocabulary questions
  • The number of questions ranges between 25 and 50.
Purpose of the Exam

PLEX is administered for two main purposes:

  1. To determine the English proficiency levels of students who will attend the Compulsory English Preparatory Program and to place them into appropriate classes.
  2. If the number of applicants to the Voluntary English Preparatory Program exceeds the available quota, the exam results are used to rank students based on their achievement.

    Students who will be admitted to the voluntary preparatory program are evaluated according to the criteria determined by the School Board (such as the national university entrance score and placement exam results). As a result of this evaluation, a limited number of students within the determined quota are accepted into the program.
Additional Information
  • The date, location, and time of the PLEX are determined and announced by the School of Foreign Languages Directorate in accordance with the academic calendar.
  • No make-up exam is administered for students who cannot attend the exam for any reason.
  • The exam is conducted in a single session.
  • Students who wish to take the exam must apply through the application procedure announced by the School of Foreign Languages Directorate.
  • Students who fail to apply within the announced period will not be allowed to take the exam.
