What is Student Council? |
|
The Student Council is an official unit affiliated with the Rectorate, which is not affiliated with any political movement and which protects student rights in meeting and developing the educational, health, sports and cultural needs of students at universities. |
What is the Purpose of the Student Council? |
|
It works to contribute to the meeting and development of the educational, health, sports and cultural needs of students registered at Osmaniye Korkut Ata University, to communicate the expectations and requests of students to the administrative bodies by establishing effective communication between the administrative bodies and the students, and to ensure the participation of students in decisions regarding education and training. |
What Should I Do to Become a Faculty Representative? |
|
In order to be the student representative of the department you are enrolled in and to be a candidate in the faculty representative elections, you must fulfill the following conditions and complete your application by the day specified in the election calendar. You must submit your application in writing to the Electoral Board and the dean's office/directorate of the faculty/school/conservatory/vocational school. |
Faculty Representative Tasks |

The duties of the faculty student representative are as follows, limited to the students of the faculty and department from which he/she was elected: |
|
To carry out student council activities in the faculties, colleges, conservatories or vocational schools he/she represents. |
|
To announce the decisions taken by the student council bodies in the faculty, college, conservatory or vocational school it represents and to monitor their implementation. |
|
To determine the student problems of the faculty, college, conservatory or vocational school he/she represents and to forward them to the student council and the relevant management bodies of the higher education institution for their solution. |
|
To represent the students of the faculty, college, conservatory or vocational school in student activities. |
|
To coordinate student activities in the faculty, college, conservatory or vocational school he/she represents. |
|
To attend the board of directors and academic council meetings of the faculty, college, conservatory or vocational school he/she represents, when discussing issues related to students. |
|
To conduct studies to improve communication between students of departments / programs / major branches / art majors. |
What Should I Do to Become a Department Representative? |
|
In order to be a candidate in the student representative elections of the department you are registered in, you must fulfill the following conditions and complete your application by the day specified in the election calendar. You must submit your application in writing to the Electoral Board and the dean's office / directorate of the faculty / school / conservatory / vocational school. |
What conditions do I need to meet to become a Department Representative Candidate? |
|
Being a registered student of an associate or undergraduate program run by the relevant department and being at least a sophomore and benefiting from student rights within the scope of Osmaniye Korkut Ata University Credit System Undergraduate and Associate Degree Education and Exam Regulation: Special students, those studying at the University within the scope of an exchange program and equivalence students cannot be candidates; minor students cannot be candidates for the student representative of the department they are minoring in; double major students or students in more than one program can only be candidates for the student representative of one department. |

Not having completed the normal education period, |
|
Not having frozen registration or taken a leave of absence during the semester in which the election was made, |
|
Not having a criminal record for disgraceful crimes, |
|
Not having received any disciplinary punishment other than a warning, |
|
Not being a member or official in political party bodies, |
|
Not having any affiliation or connection with terrorist organizations or any contact with them. |
|
Note: If there are no candidates who are eligible to be elected, the department student representative election will not be held and the representative position will remain vacant until the next interim or regular election. |
Department Representative Tasks |

The duties of the department student representative are as follows, limited to the department in which he/she is elected and the students of the department he/she represents: |

To carry out the work of the Student Council, |
|
To announce the decisions taken by the Student Council bodies in the unit and monitor their implementation, |
|
Participating in the department's student representative board meetings and representing the students in these meetings, |
|
To identify students' problems and convey them to the Student Council and the relevant academic and administrative units of the University, |
|
Representing students in student activities, |
|
To improve communication between students and the academic and administrative units of the University, |
|
Coordinating student activities, |
|
To attend meetings to discuss student-related issues upon the invitation of the relevant department head, faculty dean or college, vocational school directorate or the Rectorate, |
|
To prepare reports and archives regarding their work. |
How Often Are Elections Held? |
|
Student Council elections are held every two years. Elections are conducted within the framework of the election calendar determined and announced by the Election Board, based on a calendar, period and program determined by the Council of Higher Education. |
Who Can Vote in Elections? |
|
Voter lists are prepared by the Student Affairs Directorate and approved and announced by the Election Board. The criteria for voting are as follows: |
|
Except for special students, minor students and equivalency students; students who are registered in an associate or undergraduate program run by the relevant department and who benefit from student rights have the right to vote. |
|
Double major students can vote in both the main major and double major department elections. |
|
Special students and equivalence students do not have the right to vote. Minor students do not have the right to vote in the student representative elections of the department in which they study. |
|
Students who have frozen their registration during the semester in which the election is held, who have taken a leave of absence covering the election days or who have been deemed excused or who have applied for these, and who have been suspended covering the election days cannot vote. Each student with the right to vote has one vote. The right to vote is exercised in person and cannot be exercised by proxy. |
