Lateral Transfer

It is the transfer of a student from one higher education institution to another (from one university to another or from a faculty/college/vocational school that implements equivalent education programs within the same university to another). In short, lateral transfer can be done within universities as well as between universities. An example of lateral transfer within a university is when a student changes the department they study at their own university and studies in a different department (Students can get information from their academic advisors on this subject).

Lateral transfers to the faculties and colleges affiliated to Osmaniye Korkut Ata University (OKU) are regulated by the relevant faculty / college board of directors based on the “Regulation on the Principles of Horizontal Transfer Between Higher Education Institutions at Associate and Undergraduate Level”.

In the relevant regulation, lateral transfer is regulated as “ARTICLE 13 – (1) Lateral transfers to the University from other universities are made in accordance with the provisions of the Regulation on the Principles of Transfer Between Associate and Undergraduate Programs in Higher Education Institutions, Double Major, Minor and Inter-Institutional Credit Transfer. Other principles regarding lateral transfer are determined by the Senate.” To access the regulation

Lateral Transfer Methods

01 Lateral Transfer Between Intra-Institutional Programs

02 Inter-Institutional Lateral Transfer

03 Transfer with Central Placement Score

Lateral transfers to equivalent degree programs of a faculty, college, conservatory or vocational school within a university are possible within the quotas determined by the relevant board of directors.

It is conducted between equivalent diploma programs of the same level at higher education institutions and within the framework of the quotas published by the Council of Higher Education.

Application can be made if the central placement score of the student in the year he/she registered is equal to or higher than the base score of the program he/she wants to transfer to in the year he/she entered.

Applications for each academic year are accepted until August 30th, the evaluation process must be completed by September 15th, and registration must be completed by the end of September.

Since only graduates of vocational and technical education can prefer and settle in the programs of Vocational and Technical Secondary Education Institutions in higher education institutions, students enrolled in these programs will be able to apply for the programs that they can prefer and settle in the ÖSYS Guide of the relevant year.

Lateral transfer quotas are decided by the relevant administrative boards for each diploma program, starting from the second semester and including the fifth semester, and not exceeding 15% of the student quota foreseen in the ÖSYM Guide for each year in which a quota is announced.

The student's general grade point average for the semesters he/she has completed in the program he/she is registered in must be at least 60 out of 100.

In accordance with the procedures and principles determined by the Higher Education Executive Board, an annual quota of 30% of the student quota stipulated in the ÖSYS Guidelines is allocated for each class of each diploma program, including the preparatory class.

In accordance with Additional Article-1, if there are special conditions required for students to enroll in the program in the ÖSYS Guide, they must meet these conditions.

If no students were admitted to the diploma program that the student wants to transfer to in the year in which the student enrolled in the diploma program in which the student is currently studying, the central placement base score of the diploma program will not be able to be transferred.

Quotas, conditions determined by the senate and base points are announced 15 days before the application deadline.

In the associate degree; horizontal transfer is not possible in the preparatory, first and final semesters.

In accordance with the aforementioned principles, students' applications are evaluated by the relevant boards of higher education institutions and their horizontal transfers are accepted.

In cases where the number of applicants exceeds the quota, the transfer of as many applicants as the quota is accepted by ranking starting from the candidate with the highest OSYS score.

In the transition from Turkish-medium programs to programs that are fully or partially taught in a foreign language, the student must meet the foreign language requirement, and if the students who want to transfer in the preparatory class or first year do not meet the foreign language requirement, they are required to take foreign language preparatory education.

In order to transfer to programs that accept students with different central exam scores, it is required that the central placement score received by the student in the score type valid for the diploma program he/she wants to transfer to as of the year he/she took the central exam is not less than the lowest base score of the diploma programs of other universities in the country that are equivalent to the diploma program he/she wants to transfer to.

Transfers to undergraduate degrees cannot be made in the preparatory, first and final year, but can be made in other years.

In the evaluation of the applications, only the OSYM central placement scores in the year in which the student is placed in the program in which the student is enrolled are taken into consideration, success, etc. no conditions are required.

If students studying in intermediate grades apply, if no student is placed in the relevant higher education program with ÖSYM in the year of application, the quota in the ÖSYM Guide in the year the student enrolls in the program he / she is studying is taken into consideration.

Students can transfer only once in accordance with Additional Article-1, but students who transfer in accordance with the said article can return to the higher education institution where they have earned the right to enroll as a result of ÖSYS central placement in later application dates.

In internal lateral transfers to diploma programs that accept students with aptitude tests, success in the aptitude test is required in addition to other conditions.

Students who wish to transfer to open or distance education programs that do not have quota restrictions must apply to the relevant higher education institution by the end of working hours on the last day of the first week of September.

Universities are not required to announce a quota, applications are made before the start of the academic year each year and applications are received in the spring semester.

For students who are placed with the Vertical Transfer Examination, only the places that the student can choose with the associate degree field in the Vertical Transfer Examination Guide in the relevant year and the Vertical Transfer Examination Score are taken into consideration.

Students enrolled with a special talent exam can also apply for transfer with the central placement score. Students cannot transfer to programs that take students with a special talent exam.
