What is Social Work? |
Social work is a field of study that aims at social change, social integration, and strengthening individuals against the difficulties they face in their lives, with one leg in practice and the other in academia. The social work profession is based on principles such as interpersonal social justice, a sense of shared responsibility, respect for human rights, and respect for differences among individuals. Social work theories applied to increase well-being in people are interdisciplinary and benefit from a wide range of theories and research. Social work theories and practices benefit from a wide range of human sciences such as anthropology, psychology, sociology, ecology, education, economics, and management. |
With all these disciplines, Social Work focuses on the individual's well-being as well as their social adaptation, and unlike other fields, it focuses on producing a solution by focusing on the individual's strengths while addressing the difficulties in life, and in addition, it is distinguished from other disciplines by looking for the source of the problems experienced by individuals in environmental factors. Social work starts from the narrowest scope by including individuals and families in the problem-solving process and evaluates all elements that may have an impact in the broadest framework. In short, the Social Work Department aims for individuals to have a healthy life as individuals who can strongly confront the problems they encounter in their lives and who are in line with their potential and self-actualization goals. |
