Traditional Turkish Arts Department

The Traditional Turkish Arts Department was established in order to protect, maintain and transfer Turkish cultural heritage to future generations. In our department, students are planned to study in a wide area ranging from carpet, rugs and fabric patterns to tile arts, illumination and book decoration arts.

Planning for our training process is not only production-oriented, but also includes restoration and conservation information. Our students are designed to receive practical training on the protection and repair of the decorations of historical carpets and fabrics, tile boards and manuscripts, so that it is aimed to educate experts who can produce new works and protect existing cultural assets.

Textile Art: The historical journey of carpet, rugs and fabric patterns is examined. Students research old patterns, reinterpret with solutions and today's aesthetic understanding.

Ceramic Tile Art: While teaching traditional production techniques, it is also restored to wear or damaged tiles. In this way, the protection of cultural heritage is taught as practiced by scientific methods.

Book Arts and Illumination: In addition to classical motifs, contemporary interpretations are also processed in Illumination applications. Students work on the embellishments of manuscripts and bring this elegant art branch to experience.

Purpose of the Department

The main mission of our department  is to produce and protect our traditional arts from a contemporary perspective. For this purpose, students develop their artistic creativity and contribute to the preservation of cultural heritage with the practical trainings they will receive in the workshops.
