Gerontology, a discipline and profession, carries out studies for the benefit of the elderly in society and seeks solutions to all kinds of problems faced by the older adults in their daily lives and regulates their relationships. In this context, the aim of Gerontology is to produce policies for the elderly at the community level, to guide the elderly, to fight the losses of old age, to build bridges between the elderly and society, and to organize the leisure time of the elderly. The values of gerontology represent the national and international code of ethics of the profession. |
Courses Learned in the Gerontology Department |
Gerontology curriculum includes theoretical and applied courses. Theoretical courses are given by contemporary methods such as lectures, group discussions, role playing, case studies. In applied courses, it is ensured that students gain professional skills and behaviors by transferring the theoretical knowledge they have learned to practice. |
What are the working areas for Gerontologists? |
Students are placed in nursing homes, hospitals, municipalities, elderly / health tourism, private insurance companies, technology companies and public institutions, which are the working areas of the Gerontology profession, in and outside the province, as well as abroad, and practice under the supervision of educational managers. Applied research courses are conducted in small groups under the supervision of an educational administrator and students gain experience in producing scientific knowledge in the field of Gerontology. At the end of 4 years of undergraduate education, students of the Department of Gerontology graduate from this program with a “Bachelor's degree in Gerontology”. In the public personnel system in Turkey, the staff title of those who have a bachelor's degree in Gerontology is 'Gerontologist'. |
