Technical Visit to the Kahramanmaraş Provincial Directorate of AFAD
Under the supervision of Asst. Prof. Sevda Demir, students from our University’s Health Management Department conducted a technical visit to the Kahramanmaraş Provincial Directorate of the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD). The visit provided detailed information on AFAD’s organizational functioning, preparedness for disasters and emergencies, and response procedures.
Students were welcomed by AFAD’s expert teams. They first toured various units within the Provincial Directorate. During the visit, they observed the emergency management center, the logistics warehouse, and areas where search-and-rescue equipment is displayed. AFAD officials briefed students on each unit’s operations, the technical equipment used, and the coordination mechanisms activated during a disaster.
Particular interest was shown in the emergency management center, the logistics warehouse, and the search-and-rescue equipment areas. AFAD officials offered in-depth explanations of the activities carried out in these units and the equipment employed. Participants were also informed about AFAD’s ongoing projects and future objectives. The Provincial Director, Mr. Tayfun Temur, responded warmly to students’ questions and, drawing on field examples, described AFAD’s critical role during the earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş on 6 February. He emphasized that such technical visits make a significant contribution to students’ education and awareness, and are important for introducing AFAD’s mission and work to wider audiences.
With the participation of Health Management students, the technical visit offered an important opportunity to gain first-hand insight into AFAD’s operations and to build awareness of crisis management processes. The visit concluded with a commemorative group photograph.
