Prof. Dr. Osman Altıntaş was born in 1956 in Araklı, Trabzon. He completed his primary and secondary education in Araklı and graduated from Sürmene High School. In 1973, he was awarded a State Scholarship through the competition organized by the Turkish Red Crescent Society. He completed his higher education at the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts and the Faculty of Fine Arts at Gazi University, Ankara. He also pursued his master’s, proficiency in art, and doctoral studies at Gazi University. In addition to his academic duties, he has served as an advisor to the ministry and in high-level public administration.

He pioneered graduate and doctoral-level courses on Copyright and Artistic Practice at Gazi University—the first of their kind in Turkey. In 1986, he became one of the founding members of the Professional Association of Fine Arts Owners of Turkey (GESAM), established by the Council of Ministers in accordance with Law No. 5846, and he continues to serve as its Chairman of the Board. He played a leading role in the establishment of Intellectual and Industrial Property Rights Courts in Turkey and still serves as an expert witness for these courts on behalf of the association.

Recognized as one of the few experts in Turkey conducting research on the authenticity and forgery of artworks, he served on an important scientific committee at the Ankara State Museum of Painting and Sculpture under the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. He contributed to uncovering one of the most significant art forgery and theft cases in the history of the Turkish Republic. As a member and chair of various art and science committees, he has also produced original projects in architecture, urban furniture, and environmental design, particularly in Ankara and Istanbul. He has designed and executed over 28 public monuments across major parks, gardens, and squares in Turkey.

Prof. Altıntaş has held more than 30 solo exhibitions domestically and participated in over 200 group exhibitions, biennials, and symposia both in Turkey and abroad. He played a key role in founding numerous faculties of fine arts across Turkey and establishing several new academic departments in the field. His works are included in 18 international museum collections and in the Turkish State Museum of Painting and Sculpture.

He is also the author of four published books contributing to the field, as well as several poetry collections and anthologies. Among his many distinctions, he has received the 58th State Painting and Sculpture Award from the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Turkey and numerous other prizes and honorable mentions.

Prof. Dr. Osman Altıntaş served as a faculty member and administrator at Gazi University’s Department of Fine Arts for 34 years. He later founded and served as the Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Giresun University Görele. He is currently the Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, Design and Fine Arts at Osmaniye Korkut Ata University and continues his artistic and academic work without interruption.
