History

Osmaniye Korkut Ata University, Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Department of Physics was established in order to produce qualified knowledge in the field of basic sciences, to carry out education and training activities at universal standards and to contribute to the world of science with research and development activities. The undergraduate program of the Department of Physics aims to educate graduates equipped in the fields of experimental and theoretical physics.

In our Physics Department, a solid basic physical education is provided to our students; advanced courses and applied laboratory facilities are provided in sub-fields such as mechanical, electromagnetism, optics, quantum physics and nuclear physics. In addition, graduate education is given at the graduate level and projects are carried out in areas such as theoretical nuclear physics and dense matter physics within the scope of research activities.

The Department of Physics is located in the building of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences in Karacaoğlan Campus and our students can benefit from social and academic facilities such as library, dining hall, cafeteria, outdoor and indoor sports areas within the campus.

Department of Physics

Physics is a fundamental science that tries to understand, explain and predict the events that occur in nature. Physical science, which covers a wide range of areas from the smallest building blocks of matter to the general structure of the universe, helps us to understand nature systemically with sub-disciplines such as mechanical, electromagnetism, quantum physics, thermodynamics and nuclear physics. Physics, which works with theoretical and experimental methods, is the basis of technological developments in many fields, from engineering to medicine, energy to space sciences.

While the Department of Physics aims to develop the analytical thinking, mathematical modeling and problem solving skills of the students, it also aims to gain the competence of conducting scientific research. The training program is organized to include theoretical courses, as well as laboratory applications, project studies and contemporary physics. Our students are trained as individuals who can progress in the academic field by internalizing scientific thinking and who can succeed in various sectors such as industry, energy, defense and communication.

Physical discipline is a profession that tries to understand nature directly and aims to develop technologies that can transform human life with this understanding. Physicists lead scientific developments by taking on roles as researchers, educators and practitioners. Osmaniye Korkut Ata University Department of Physics aims to contribute to educating qualified manpower that our country needs in the field of science and technology by offering an educational environment that promotes scientific curiosity.

Purpose of the Department

The purpose of the Physics Department is to educate individuals who are capable of comprehending nature, creating explanations and technological solutions in line with universal scientific principles. In this context, the department aims to educate physicists who can think analytically and have research and development competences that can apply this knowledge in many fields such as engineering, energy, health to the defense industry, as well as the basic scientific knowledge production.

The Department of Physics aims to educate individuals who closely follow the scientific developments; who can combine theoretical knowledge and experimental practice; observe ethical values and act with professional responsibility awareness. The graduates of the department are equipped to have the infrastructure to be able to work as qualified specialists in academic studies or in various industries.
