What is Physics?

Physics is a fundamental science that explores the behavior of matter and energy, their interactions, and how these interactions evolve over time. It seeks to answer questions about the workings of the universe through observation, experimentation, and mathematical modeling. The primary goal of physics is to discover the laws of nature and use them to explain physical phenomena in the universe.

Physics has an interdisciplinary structure and interacts closely with many other fields such as engineering, medicine, information technology, and energy. The Department of Physics aims to equip students with skills in analytical thinking, problem solving, and scientific inquiry, preparing them to become competent individuals in both academic and applied domains.


Courses Learned in the Social Work Program

The courses offered in the Department of Physics are designed to provide students with a solid foundation in scientific knowledge and to develop their analytical thinking skills in line with the aims and objectives of the program. In the first year, students take core courses such as General Physics I-II, Physics Laboratory, Mathematics, Chemistry, and Introduction to Computer Programming. These courses form the basis for understanding physical phenomena and adapting to the scientific method.

In the second and third years, students explore theoretical and applied subjects such as Classical Mechanics, Electromagnetism, Thermodynamics, Quantum Physics, Nuclear Physics, and Solid-State Physics. These courses offer students the opportunity to study physical systems in greater depth. In the fourth year, students carry out an original research project as part of their Graduation Thesis and further develop their research skills through elective courses. Additionally, laboratory-based experimental and computational courses enable students to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world problems.

What Are the Career Opportunities for Physics Graduates?

Physics graduates possess a strong foundation in scientific knowledge and analytical thinking skills, which enables them to pursue careers in both the public and private sectors. They have a wide range of employment opportunities in universities, research institutions, R&D departments of industrial companies, technology firms, and government agencies. In particular, institutions such as the Turkish Atomic Energy Authority (TAEK), TÜBİTAK, ASELSAN, ROKETSAN, HAVELSAN, and TUSAŞ are among the prominent organizations where physicists are frequently employed. Graduates may also work as physics teachers in high schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education, or pursue careers in hospitals and medical centers specializing in areas such as medical physics and radiation physics. Additionally, they can specialize in emerging fields such as nuclear energy, renewable energy, imaging systems, artificial intelligence, and data analysis, establishing successful careers across various sectors.
