The Purpose of the Department |
|
The Department of Computer Engineering aims to train engineers with the skills to make fundamental and lasting contributions to the profession of computer engineering. A further objective of the programme is to equip students with the ability to continue their personal development after graduation. This undergraduate programme aims to provide students with the necessary technical competencies, tools, and personal resources to continuously develop their comprehension, expertise, and professionalism. It also supports students' participation in international and national education projects such as ERASMUS and FARABİ, aiming to provide them with international and national cultural and academic gains. Rapid developments in digital transformation, artificial intelligence, data science and cyber security worldwide, and particularly in our country, have made computer engineering a discipline of strategic importance today and in the future. The primary aim of the Department of Computer Engineering is to train engineers who can adapt to the technological requirements of the age, think analytically, and possess innovative and ethical values. In this context, some of the department's objectives are summarised below: To equip students with the ability to apply their knowledge of mathematics, science and engineering to computer engineering problems, thereby preparing them for a successful engineering career. To develop the ability to identify, formulate, model, analyse and solve computer engineering problems; to develop the competence to design and conduct experiments and simulations when necessary, and to analyse and interpret the results. To this end, to train engineers who possess the ability to effectively utilise modern engineering tools, software development environments, programming languages and hardware technologies. Developing effective verbal and written communication skills, ensuring that students understand the global and social impacts of the profession, their professional and ethical responsibilities, and the social, cultural, and environmental impacts of information technologies. To provide in-depth knowledge on fundamental computer engineering topics such as algorithms, data structures, software engineering, artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, cybersecurity, embedded systems, and computer networks. To teach data collection, processing, storage, and analysis techniques; to encourage work on contemporary technologies such as big data, cloud computing, and the Internet of Things (IoT). To train engineers who can develop software and hardware solutions with the qualities required by the industry; to support the implementation of applied projects through industry-university collaboration. Raise awareness on information security, network security, and data privacy; conduct studies on secure software and system design. Provide theoretical and practical knowledge on the design, development, testing, and integration of computer systems. To conduct research and development activities in new and advanced technology areas such as artificial intelligence, robotic systems, intelligent automation, and decision support systems. To investigate the environmental and social impacts of information technologies; to raise awareness for developing sustainable and ethical computing solutions. To contribute to Turkey's digital transformation and domestic technology development potential. |
