Higher education in Osmaniye started in 1976. Osmaniye Vocational School established under the Ministry of National Education, merged with Çukurova University in 1982. The Vocational School in Kadirli which is connected to Cukurova University in 1997, and Vocational School in Düziçi and Vocational School in Bahce were established in 2000 as a part of Kahramanmaras Sutcu Imam University. These Four Schools were incorporated into Osmaniye Korkut Ata University after the University was established in 2007. In 2008, Erzin Vocational School was established in Erzin.

Osmaniye Korkut Ata University was established by Amendment No. 84 of Law 5662 which was published in the Official Gazette on May 29, 2007 issued as 26536.

The following units were placed in the University:

-Faculties (Engineering, Science and Literature, Economics and Administrative Sciences)

-Vocational Schools (Osmaniye, Kadirli, Bahçe, Düziçi, Erzin)

-Institutes (Science, Social Sciences)

-Administration affiliated units (Atatürk Principles and Revolution History Section, Physical Education and Sports Department, Fine Arts Department, Turkish Language Department, Foreign Languages Department)

Osmaniye Korkut Ata University has a total of 746,884 m2 real property including 657,014 m2 field of the Treasury.

Students have been studying in the four Vocational Schools, Osmaniye, Kadirli, Bahçe and Düziçi since the 2008–2009 academic year. 1878 students are in formal education and 2077 students are in secondary education. A total of 3955 students are studying in the University. Osmaniye Vocational School is the largest Vocational School; there are a total of 2236 students in the vocational schools.

The University has a total academic staff position of 1235. However, 109 positions are filled and 1127 positions are not yet filled. The total number of administrative staff is 116.

For its internet service, the university was served with 2 Mbps over fiber lines which was a part of Cukurova University since the establishment of its network infrastructure. It has upgraded to Metro Ethernet since March 2009 and internet now has an efficient 10 Mbps connection.
